Migraine & Headache

Migraine Specialist in Smyrna, GA

We are not a headache clinic in the medical sense, and we say that plainly. What our Smyrna, GA office offers people with migraines is a different set of questions: how the neck, eyes, balance system, and nervous system behave when a headache is building, and what can be done about the pieces that fall in our lane.

How We Approach Migraine in Smyrna

Dr. James Wright is a Doctor of Chiropractic with a diplomate in functional neurology through the American Chiropractic Neurology Board. If you need a diagnosis or medicine, your doctor or a headache specialist is the right first call. Mayo Clinic advises seeing a doctor if you need headache medicine more than twice a week, if headaches disrupt your life, or if the pattern changes.

Where we help is with the other half of the picture. Migraine is often joined by neck tension, light sensitivity, dizziness, or poor sleep, and those are things we can test and work on. The migraine and headache care page on our site explains the main headache types and where each fits.

Visits are one-on-one and unhurried, and care is private-pay with a complimentary first consultation. We build exercises around what the evaluation finds and revisit them as your headache pattern changes. Our care is meant to be complementary to your medical care, never a replacement for it.

What We Offer People With Migraine

Mayo Clinic describes migraine as an attack that often brings throbbing pain on one side of the head, light and sound sensitivity, and nausea, with some people also having an aura. It lists hormonal changes, stress, sleep changes, skipped meals, and bright or flashing lights among common triggers. We cannot change your genetics, but we can look at what we are trained to look at:

A complimentary first consultation about your headache pattern, triggers, and what you have already tried

Review of your headache history, medicines, and any red-flag symptoms, with a suggestion to see your doctor when needed

Neck, jaw, and posture assessment for tension and cervicogenic contributors

Eye movement, balance, and autonomic testing when light sensitivity, dizziness, or other symptoms come with the headaches

Chiropractic care and myofascial release for the neck and shoulders when they fit

Exercises designed to challenge the visual, balance, and autonomic systems

Guidance on sleep, meals, hydration, and trigger tracking

Coordination with your doctor or headache specialist, with your permission

What Care May Help With

A Clearer Read on Your Pattern

Writing down timing, triggers, and warning signs gives you and your doctor better information. We help you notice patterns, such as headaches that follow long screen days or stiff necks.

Less Neck-Driven Pain

When a neck problem is feeding the headache, the National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health (NCCIH) notes that low-to-moderate quality evidence suggests spinal manipulation may reduce cervicogenic headaches (NCCIH, January 2023). The evidence for migraine itself is preliminary, and we say so.

Better Tolerance for Light and Motion

Many migraine patients are bothered by bright light and busy visual scenes. We test eye movements and balance, and exercises may help the system cope better.

More Say Over Your Week

Smaller wins count: knowing which habits to protect, when to rest, and when to call your doctor.

Where Our Smyrna Patients Come From

The office sits on Atlanta Road in Smyrna, a city of more than 56,000 people near the Cumberland-Galleria employment center. Cobb Parkway, South Cobb Drive, and the interstates reach the office from around Smyrna, and the Village Green area downtown is close for anyone who lives nearby. Long drives on I-285 or I-75 and long hours at a screen both load the neck and shoulders, and posture is one of the things we look at in an evaluation.

Nearby places include Vinings, Mableton, Austell, and Cumberland. If you live elsewhere, our other migraine pages cover Marietta, Atlanta, and Sandy Springs. If your headaches seem to start in the neck, see neck pain treatment in Smyrna.
