Functional neurology is a discipline that evaluates how dynamically your nervous system is operating, not just whether there is structural damage. Based on what we find, we use targeted, non-invasive exercises and therapies designed to support how your brain and body function.
"I will give you back your health and heal your wounds, says the Lord." (Jeremiah 30:17)
What a functional neurologist does
A functional neurologist is trained to assess how well the brain, brainstem, cerebellum, and nerves are working together in real time. We look past the symptom label and ask a more useful question: how well is the nervous system working, and what might help support it?
A functional lens, not just a structural one. Imaging looks at structure. Functional neurology adds an assessment of how the nervous system is performing, including when scans come back normal.
Targeted exercises. The nervous system can adapt over time. We use specific sensory, motor, visual, and balance exercises designed to challenge particular neural pathways.
Non-invasive, drug-free care. Our care is non-invasive and does not involve surgery or prescription drugs. Our work is built on exercises designed to challenge specific parts of the nervous system.
Dr. Wright is a Doctor of Chiropractic with a diplomate through the American Chiropractic Neurology Board. He practices functional neurology as a chiropractor. Functional neurology at Strong Tower does not replace the care of your medical doctors.
To become a diplomate of the American Chiropractic Neurology Board, a Doctor of Chiropractic completes post-doctoral training in functional neurology and passes the board's written and performance exams. You can read the board's own description at acnb.org.
How we look at symptoms
Complex symptoms like dizziness, brain fog, chronic pain, or a racing heart rarely come from one place. Our evaluation looks at what may be driving them, not only the complaint.
1. Listen to your story. We start by hearing the full picture: your symptoms, your history, and how the problem is affecting your daily life. Complex symptoms rarely live in just one place.
2. Evaluate the nervous system. Detailed functional testing evaluates eye movements, balance, coordination, reflexes, autonomic regulation, and proprioception to help identify where the nervous system is struggling.
3. Look for contributing factors. Rather than chasing each symptom, we look at what may be behind symptoms that keep coming back.
4. Build your plan. A personalized plan of targeted exercises and therapies is designed to challenge those networks and support how your brain and body function.

Our role in your care
Recovery is something your body does. Our role is to look at how the nervous system is working and provide input designed to support it.
We look at where the nervous system may be struggling and offer input designed to support your body's own recovery.
The nervous system can adapt, and repeated, specific exercises are designed to challenge the systems involved.
We treat the whole person, not a single symptom, looking at how the brain, nerves, gut, and autonomic system interact to create both dysfunction and recovery.
Care is always one-on-one and individualized, built around your story, your symptoms, and your goals, never a one-size-fits-all protocol.
