Vertigo & Balance

Vertigo Treatment in Atlanta, GA

Spinning when you roll over in bed, or a floor that never quite feels level, is worth taking seriously. Our vertigo treatment for Atlanta, GA patients looks at the inner ears, eyes, and neck together, and the office is a short interstate drive northwest of downtown in Smyrna.

Who You Would Be Seeing

Dr. James Wright is a Doctor of Chiropractic who went on to earn a diplomate in functional neurology through the American Chiropractic Neurology Board, with further training under Dr. Marc Ellis in soft tissue and brain rehabilitation. Atlanta has strong hospital-based neurology and ENT options, and some dizziness needs exactly that.

We fit in where dizziness lingers after medical causes have been looked at, or where nobody has examined how the eyes, neck, and balance system cooperate. The NIDCD notes that medications, ear conditions, head injury, and low blood pressure when standing can all cause balance trouble, so we review those with you and send you back to your doctor when needed. More background sits on our page about vertigo and balance care.

If we think our care fits, you get a plan of exercises and an explanation of why each one is there, and you can call the office with questions between visits. This is a private-pay practice with a complimentary first consultation, so there is a low-pressure way to find out whether it suits you.

Vertigo Care We Offer

Atlanta residents often arrive after months of trying to explain dizziness to several providers. Vertigo, the spinning type, is distinct from lightheadedness or unsteadiness, and the NIDCD advises talking with your doctor about each. We try to make our part clear and practical:

A complimentary first consultation about your dizziness, when it happens, and what triggers it

Eye movement testing and observation, since the eyes and inner ears work together

Balance and gait testing, including how steady you are with your eyes closed or on unstable footing

A look at the neck, because neck problems can contribute to dizziness

Review of your medical history and medicines, with a suggestion to see your doctor when something needs a medical look first

Vestibular rehabilitation exercises, such as gaze stability, head movement, and balance work

Education about your pattern, including when a repositioning procedure for BPPV may be the better next step and how we refer for it

A home exercise plan and guidance on what to expect between visits

What Patients Often Hope to Get Back

Confidence on Crowded Streets and Trains

Midtown crowds, MARTA platforms, and busy sidewalks put heavy demands on the visual and balance systems. Exercises can build tolerance to motion in the visual field, and we aim to progress at your pace.

Time Back From Avoiding Things

A common pattern is quietly skipping elevators, escalators, or certain stores. The work of vestibular rehabilitation is designed to help the brain adapt, and a 2016 clinical practice guideline strongly recommends offering it for peripheral vestibular hypofunction (Hall and colleagues).

Information Instead of Guesswork

If you have been told it is "just stress" or "just your ears," a detailed look at eye movement and balance testing can add information. We still send you to your doctor when a medical cause is possible.

A Practical Routine

We aim to build a routine that fits into a normal day, and we adjust it when it does not.

Reaching Us From Atlanta and Nearby

We are in Smyrna, about ten miles northwest of downtown Atlanta, and the City of Smyrna describes downtown Atlanta as roughly a 15-minute drive away by interstate. From Buckhead, Midtown, and the Westside, the interstates, I-75 and I-285, are the usual routes, and Vinings is almost next door.

Sandy Springs, Dunwoody, Decatur, East Point, and Brookhaven are nearby. Prefer a different spot? Our vertigo pages for Smyrna and Marietta describe the same care. If ringing comes with the dizziness, see tinnitus treatment for Atlanta, and if you are still foggy after a head injury, read about the concussion clinic serving Atlanta.

How We Handle Vertigo, Start to Finish

1. Call or book: Tell us about your dizziness. If it is sudden or severe, we point you to emergency care first.

2. Conversation: Dr. Wright asks about timing, triggers, hearing changes, headaches, past injuries, and what you have already tried.

3. Evaluation: Testing of eye movements, balance, coordination, and the neck, to see which part of the balance system may be struggling.

4. Findings: We explain what the testing suggests and whether it makes sense to see your doctor or an ear specialist as well.

5. Exercises: You start a graded set of vestibular and balance exercises, usually practiced at home too.

6. Review: We check progress, adjust exercises, and plan the next step.

Vertigo Questions From Atlanta Patients

Is the drive worth it for a dizziness evaluation?

That is your call, and the complimentary consultation lets you decide before committing time. Many people come from across the Atlanta area, and we are open to patients from any distance.

Do I need an MRI or hearing test first?

Not to talk with us, but your doctor may order them, and we ask for any results you already have. If a medical cause is suspected, we encourage you to pursue that first.

Can you treat vertigo from a car accident or fall?

If dizziness followed a head or neck injury, we evaluate the eyes, balance system, and neck. Severe injury needs emergency care first; the Mayo Clinic advises emergency care for severe neck pain after an accident (Mayo Clinic, May 2026).

How do I know whether this is BPPV?

BPPV usually means brief spinning triggered by head position, such as rolling over. We check whether your story fits and explain options, including referral for repositioning when that is the better step.

What does it cost?

We are a private-pay practice and do not bill insurance. The first consultation is complimentary, and we discuss pricing before care begins.
