Atlanta is a city of commutes, crowded sidewalks, scooters, and pickup games, which means head bumps happen, and sometimes the symptoms outlast the injury. If you live or work in Atlanta and you are still dealing with fog, headaches, or dizziness, our Smyrna office can evaluate how your nervous system is handling it.
Dr. James Wright is a Doctor of Chiropractic and holds a diplomate in functional neurology through the American Chiropractic Neurology Board. Anyone with a recent significant head injury, or symptoms that are getting worse, should be seen by a physician first.
Once that is handled, the question for many people becomes why they still feel off. The CDC lists headache, dizziness, nausea, trouble concentrating, and light or noise sensitivity among concussion symptoms (CDC). We test the systems that produce those symptoms: how the eyes track, how steady you are, how the neck is moving, and how your heart rate and blood pressure respond to position change.
The overall approach is described on our concussion and brain injury care page. The first consultation is complimentary, we are private-pay, and we are happy to send findings to your doctor.
Mayo Clinic notes that post-concussion symptoms can include headaches, dizziness, trouble with memory and concentration, and sensitivity to light and noise, and that most people feel better within three months though some take longer (Mayo Clinic). For people whose symptoms persist, these are the services:
A complimentary first consultation about the injury, your symptoms, and how recovery has gone so far
A review of your injury history and a check for symptoms that need emergency or medical care first
Eye movement and visual tracking testing, since vision problems are common after head injury
Balance, coordination, and vestibular testing
A look at the neck, which is often injured in the same impact
Autonomic and exertion-related symptom review
Graded exercises for the eyes, balance system, and neck, built around your findings
Guidance on sleep, rest, activity, and a gradual return to school, work, or sport, in coordination with your doctor
Office lighting, meetings, and screens can all be demanding on a recovering brain. We look for patterns and discuss pacing options you can use in your own job.
Walking in crowds or riding MARTA can feel like too much visual motion. Vestibular and eye exercises are designed to support tolerance, and we adjust difficulty gradually.
If you also have neck pain or stiffness after the injury, it is worth examining. Our neck pain treatment in Atlanta page describes that side of care.
Returning to exercise too quickly can set symptoms back. We use your responses to guide how fast to progress, in coordination with your doctor.
Smyrna is about ten miles northwest of downtown Atlanta, around a 15-minute drive on the interstate, according to the City of Smyrna. From Buckhead, Midtown, and West Midtown the trip uses I-75 or I-285, and from Vinings it is even shorter. A bad concussion day is not the time to drive in rush hour, so ask someone to take you and plan your appointment outside peak traffic if you can.
If another office location is easier to reach, we describe the same care for Smyrna, Marietta, and Roswell. Our vertigo care for Atlanta page may help if dizziness is your main complaint. Other nearby areas include Decatur, Brookhaven, Dunwoody, and East Atlanta.

2. Your story: Dr. Wright reviews how the injury happened, your symptoms, and what you have been told so far.
3. Evaluation: Testing of eye movements, balance, coordination, the neck, and autonomic responses, in a way that respects your symptom level.
4. Findings: We explain what we found, what it may mean, and when your physician should be involved.
5. Graded care: We start gentle exercises and add challenge step by step as you tolerate them.
6. Check-ins: We track symptoms and function over time, adjust the plan, and coordinate return-to-activity decisions with your physician.
If the head injury was recent and significant, or symptoms are worsening, yes. The CDC lists danger signs that need emergency care, including repeated vomiting, seizures, and a headache that gets worse. Call 911 when in doubt.
We are a private practice offering a complementary functional neurology approach, not a hospital program, and we are open about what we do and do not do.
