Concussion & Brain Injury

Concussion Clinic in Roswell, GA

A concussion from a soccer game at a Roswell park, a slip on the trail, or a fender-bender on Holcomb Bridge Road can leave symptoms long after the swelling and bruising are gone. We evaluate the eyes, balance, neck, and autonomic response at our Smyrna office and use what we find to plan graded recovery work.

What We Add to Your Recovery

Dr. James Wright is a Doctor of Chiropractic and a diplomate in functional neurology through the American Chiropractic Neurology Board. He does not replace your emergency or primary care physician. We start after a physician has made sure nothing urgent is going on.

Concussion symptoms can vary widely. The CDC lists headache, dizziness, nausea, concentration trouble, and sensitivity to light and noise, and says to seek emergency care for signs such as a worsening headache, repeated vomiting, or seizures (CDC). Our testing looks at what could be behind the symptoms that remain, rather than treating all of them as one problem. For the general picture, read our concussion and brain injury care overview.

You get a one-on-one visit, a clear explanation, and a home plan. The first consultation is complimentary and the practice is private-pay, so costs are discussed up front.

What the Concussion Program Includes

Mayo Clinic says post-concussion symptoms usually improve within three months but can last longer (Mayo Clinic). For persistent symptoms, this is how we can help:

A complimentary first consultation about the injury, your symptoms, and how recovery has gone so far

A review of your injury history and a check for symptoms that need emergency or medical care first

Eye movement and visual tracking testing, since vision problems are common after head injury

Balance, coordination, and vestibular testing

A look at the neck, which is often injured in the same impact

Autonomic and exertion-related symptom review

Graded exercises for the eyes, balance system, and neck, built around your findings

Guidance on sleep, rest, activity, and a gradual return to school, work, or sport, in coordination with your doctor

What We Aim to Support

Smoother Visual Tracking

When eyes jump or tire easily, school, screens, and driving suffer. We test tracking and design exercises to support it.

Better Balance Confidence

Uneven ground and stairs can feel risky after a concussion. Balance work starts at a level you can manage and builds from there.

Return to Activity With Guidance

Georgia's Return to Play Act, signed in 2013, was described as requiring covered youth programs to pull an athlete when concussion symptoms appear and to obtain medical clearance before return (Governor's office, April 2013). Requirements may have changed, so confirm with the school or league. Medical clearance comes from a physician, not from us.

A Realistic Timeline

We tell you what we measure, track changes, and explain what we think is happening.

Roswell to Smyrna

Roswell is on the Chattahoochee River in north Fulton County, about 20 miles north of Atlanta, and the historic district with Bulloch Hall and the town square is one of the best-known parts of the city. To reach us you take GA-400 south and then I-285 west, which can be slow at rush hour. During active concussion symptoms, motion and bright traffic can be tiring, so have someone drive you if possible.

Nearby places include Alpharetta, Johns Creek, Sandy Springs, and Dunwoody. Other options are described for Atlanta, Smyrna, and Marietta. Many people with head injuries also report headaches, so see our migraine care in Roswell page.

How We Work Through It

1. First contact: Call or book. If symptoms are worsening or severe after a head injury, go to the emergency department first.

2. Your story: Dr. Wright reviews how the injury happened, your symptoms, and what you have been told so far.

3. Evaluation: Testing of eye movements, balance, coordination, the neck, and autonomic responses, in a way that respects your symptom level.

4. Findings: We explain what we found, what it may mean, and when your physician should be involved.

5. Graded care: We start gentle exercises and add challenge step by step as you tolerate them.

6. Check-ins: We track symptoms and function over time, adjust the plan, and coordinate return-to-activity decisions with your physician.

Roswell Concussion Questions

Is the trip from Roswell too much while I'm symptomatic?

It can be. Ask someone to drive, schedule off-peak, and tell us at booking if car rides trigger symptoms.

Can youth athletes come in?

Parents are welcome to call and ask. We will explain what we can do, and a physician must clear any return to play.

Does hitting my head hard mean I have a concussion?

Not always, and a concussion can occur without a direct blow. A physician makes the diagnosis.

I had a concussion years ago. Is it too late?

No. Ongoing symptoms from a past injury are a reason to ask for an evaluation.

How do I book?
