Fibromyalgia can feel like being sore everywhere while also being too tired to do anything about it. At our Smyrna, GA office we offer a gentle, complementary approach for people with fibromyalgia: a neurological and physical evaluation, then a plan that is paced so progress does not cost you a flare.
Dr. James Wright is a Doctor of Chiropractic with a diplomate in functional neurology through the American Chiropractic Neurology Board. He does not diagnose fibromyalgia, which a physician does, and he does not prescribe medicine. Our first step is listening to your history: when the pain started, what has helped, and what has made things worse.
Mayo Clinic describes fibromyalgia as widespread, constant dull ache lasting at least three months, along with fatigue, sleep problems, and trouble with focus, and says nerves may change how the brain and spinal cord process pain signals (Mayo Clinic, April 2025). Because the nervous system is involved, a functional neurology exam looks at balance, eye movement, and autonomic regulation along with muscles. See our chronic pain care page for the wider picture.
Care is one-on-one and private-pay, and the first consultation is complimentary. We work with your rheumatologist or primary doctor when you wish.
NCCIH reports that low-to-moderate quality evidence supports acupuncture and massage lasting five weeks or longer for fibromyalgia pain (NCCIH, January 2023). We do not offer acupuncture, but the finding shows why gentle hands-on and movement-based approaches are often considered. Our services are:
A complimentary first consultation about your pain, fatigue, sleep, and what you have tried
Review of your diagnosis and care team, since fibromyalgia is diagnosed by a physician
Neurological evaluation of balance, eye movements, autonomic regulation, and coordination
A gentle look at muscles, posture, and areas of sensitivity
Myofascial work, applied at a level you can tolerate
Graded exercises and movement that build slowly
Guidance on pacing, sleep, stress, and daily habits
Coordination with your rheumatologist or physician, with your permission
We pace everything. The goal is to build tolerance, not to push through, and we ask about your response after each visit.
Movement that begins at a very small scale can still matter. Graded exercises are designed to support steadier activity over time.
Mayo notes that fibromyalgia often occurs alongside headaches, migraines, TMJ disorders, irritable bowel syndrome, anxiety, and POTS. If you have those, see our pages on POTS care in Smyrna and sciatica care in Smyrna for how we approach related symptoms.
You decide what we do each visit, and we adjust to touch sensitivity and energy level.
Smyrna is about ten miles northwest of downtown Atlanta and has more than 56,000 residents, with Cobb Parkway, Atlanta Road, and the interstates nearby. With fatigue, getting to appointments takes effort, so we suggest booking at the time of day you feel best. The Silver Comet Trail and Village Green are local places some people use for gentle walking when they are feeling well.
The same care is described for Marietta and Atlanta. Nearby communities include Vinings, Mableton, Austell, and Cumberland.
1. Reach out: Call or book. Tell us anything that makes visits hard, such as sensitivity to touch or fatigue, so we can plan around it.
2. Your story: Dr. Wright reviews your pain, sleep, energy, past testing, and medicines.
3. Evaluation: Neurological testing and a gentle physical exam, paced to how you feel.
4. Findings: We explain what we found and where our care may fit alongside your doctor's.
5. Gradual care: Hands-on work and exercises start light and build slowly, with your feedback guiding the pace.
6. Review: We adjust, pace, and review together, so progress does not come at the cost of flares.
We work at a level you can tolerate and adjust right away if something is too much. Tell us what you need, and we will modify it.
The useful basics are your diagnosis and who made it, your current medicines, and what a typical day looks like. Notes on sleep and energy help too, but a conversation is enough if you have no paperwork.
