Anyone who has spent a weekend on the Marietta Square, a long week hunched over a laptop, or a few miles on Kennesaw Mountain knows the feeling of muscles that will not let go. Our Smyrna office, a short drive south, offers myofascial release, a slow hands-on method, within a broader plan that starts with a full exam.
Dr. James Wright earned his Doctor of Chiropractic degree at Life University in Marietta and later a diplomate in functional neurology through the American Chiropractic Neurology Board. We do not treat muscle tightness as a stand-alone problem. We look at posture, movement, the neck, and the nervous system to see how the tight area fits.
Cleveland Clinic describes myofascial release as a technique that releases tension in fascia by applying slow, steady pressure to trigger points with direct skin contact, with sessions lasting 15 to 50 minutes (Cleveland Clinic, August 2022). Our myofascial release page describes where it fits in the practice.
The first consultation is complimentary, and care is one-on-one and private-pay. Expect questions about where you hurt, what makes it worse, any injuries or surgeries, and what you take for pain, followed by a look at how you stand, move, and breathe.
According to Cleveland Clinic, the approach is used for myofascial pain syndrome, low back pain, TMJ disorder, fibromyalgia, and chronic migraine, among others, and it is also suggested for scarring, nerve compression, and repetitive stress injuries. Before starting, we ask about fractures, open wounds, and blood clots. Here is what we offer:
A complimentary first consultation about where you hurt and how it affects your days
A review of your health history, medicines, and anything that means myofascial work should wait, such as a fracture, open wound, or blood clot
Movement and posture assessment, to see how the area fits into the whole body
Slow, sustained hands-on pressure on tight areas and trigger points, as described by Cleveland Clinic
Pairing with chiropractic care or exercises when they fit
Home guidance on stretching and movement
Clear communication about pressure, so you can ask us to ease up at any time
Coordination with your physician or therapist, with your permission
Looser tissue can make turning, reaching, and bending feel less guarded. We pair soft-tissue work with exercises meant to hold the change.
Many people carry tension at the base of the skull. See our neck pain treatment in Marietta page for how we assess that area.
Tight hip muscles can add to leg pain. Our sciatica care in Marietta page covers that side of care.
You control the intensity and can ask us to stop or adjust. We never work through pain you cannot tolerate.
Marietta is the Cobb County seat, with the Square and Glover Park at its center, and Kennesaw Mountain just to the north. Heading south on Cobb Parkway or South Cobb Drive brings you to the Smyrna office. Life University and Kennesaw State's Marietta campus are in town. Nearby places include Kennesaw, East Cobb, Acworth, and Powder Springs.

3. Assessment: We look at movement and posture, not just the sore spot.
4. Hands-on work: Slow, steady pressure is applied to tight areas. You can tell us to ease up at any time.

Comfortable, loose clothing that lets us reach the area being treated. Tell us if you prefer certain areas to stay covered, and we will work within that.
Tell us before we begin. Some situations call for your physician's approval first.
They share ideas, but ours is hands-on and guided by an exam, and we adjust the technique to your response.
Some people feel tender for a day or so after soft-tissue work, and others do not. Tell us how you felt, since that guides how firm we are next time.
Many people describe pressure and a stretching sensation. You set the level.
